We're just like a computer

Another one of the distinctions I created when I developed my new Roadmap to Success program, that was a real eye opener for many, was an analogy of how much you and I are like a computer. See if this makes sense to you. By the way, if you haven’t yet seen the preview of the new video program, please click on this link: http://www.unshackledleadership.com/free-success-video.
We’re just like a computer!
I’m typing this post on my wonderful Dell computer. It was manufactured by Dell just like all the other computers the company makes and was designed to work, and work wonderfully. It has all the necessary components that a computer requires and those components were designed to be programmed to perform any number of useful tasks. Following through, I have loaded quite a few programs into my computer, Word, Excel, ACT, Quickbooks and others and on a day-to-day basis, my computer works exactly the way it’s programmed to produce the results those programs are designed to produce.
But have you ever had a virus infect your computer, which is the case for most of us? Viruses come with many different names but they all produce a similar result. They infect the operation of the computer and who knows what the result will be, but it’s never pretty.
Now when that happens, do you blame the computer? Do you yell at or beat up the computer? Do you all of a sudden think you have a faulty computer? None of the above. You know the computer is fine, it’s just been infected with a virus and what you need to do is get rid of the virus so your computer can get back to normal operation.
I invite you to think of yourself and your people in the same way. When you were created by your creator, just like the rest of us, you were designed to work, and work wonderfully. You, like everyone else, were given all of the necessary components that a human being requires and those components, your heart, your brain, your stomach, etc., came already programmed to perform any number of useful tasks. Just like the acorn is programmed to become an oak tree and a caterpillar is programmed to become a butterfly, you were programmed to be born and thrive. Whether you realize that or not, it’s the truth.
But you’re infected with a virus, as is everyone else. In this case, the virus has one name – the ego. And when that virus takes over, which it does pretty regularly, there’s no way to predict the mischief it will create. And it creates incredible mischief, which is why so many are unhappy and disconnected from the truth of who they are. The latest Gallup poll reveals that 7 out of 10 workers have “checked out” at work or are “actively disengaged.” Gallup estimates this is costing you as much as $550 billion in economic activity. Amazing to think about that, isn’t it? And all because we’re infected by this virus and don’t know what to do about it.
What’s particularly bad about this virus is that we’re not going to get rid of it. As long as you’re here, it will be here. And when we or the people around us behave in unacceptable ways, we blame the person. We yell at or beat them up. We think we or they are a faulty person. None of that is the truth. We are as perfect as the day we arrived, it’s just we’re infected with this virus. And nobody seems to understand that.
I will write more about this in future posts but if you can see how this applies either to you or to the people you work with or work for you, you really should check out our new Roadmap to Success video program which explains all of this in detail and what you can start doing immediately to free yourself from the virus.
